Frequently asked questions

Yes, to protect themselves, the riders we coach and any third parties. 

Our coaches also have the relevant British Cycling qualifications, a recent DBS certificate, safeguarding children training and a current first-aid certificate. 

The welfare of children is paramount both at The Cycle Coach and also within our wider community.
As such we follow guidance as set out by British Cycling & again we require all members, coaches & legal guardians to conduct themselves in line with these codes.

The Cycle Coach ensures that all coaches that work or volunteer for us who have contact with children and young people are equipped to carry out their safeguarding responsibilities effectively. 

To ensure this each coach/volunteer will need to complete a recognised Safeguarding Course before having contact with any children or young people.

Every session is delivered by a qualified British Cycling coach.

No. 

Children who are non-riders can enrol onto The Cycle Coach BALANCE Bike Programme. For all other programmes rider need basic experience of riding a bike.

Yes. 

The Cycle Coach encourages you to bring your own bike but if your child does not have a bike, please contact us and we can discuss arranging a bike for your child to use.

There is a maximum of 16 students allowed per session.

*For Pedal-Parties the number of riders allowed is agreed on each individual party.

All sessions a scheduled for 60 minutes.

BALANCE session – £7.50 per rider.

PEDAL-UP session – £7.50 per rider.

*Prices are based on an individual class. Sessions are paid for on a pro-rota basis based on a 6-week programme.

– Your child’s bike (in working order)
– A British Standard Cycling Helmet
– A full water bottle

The Cycle Coach Awards have a progressive syllabus and must be completed in the following order:

– White
– Green
– Yellow

Each Jersey is a prerequisite to move onto the next award, with the Yellow Jersey being the FINAL Award.

PROGRAMMES are open to children from 2-12 years old.

BALANCE: 2-5 years

PEDAL-UP – 4-7, 7-11 & 11-14 years (Keystage 1, 2 & 3)

THE CYCLE COACH AWARD – 4-7, 7-11 & 11-14 years (Keystage 1, 2 & 3)

PEDAL-PARTIES – 4-11 years (Keystage: 1 & 2)

If your child is <4yrs old and can confidently ride a bike unassisted and without stabilisers The Cycle Coach will look at each child individually and make a decision whether they can enrol onto a PEDAL-UP Programmes or THE CYCLE COACH AWARD.

Payment can be made via The Cycle Coach Booking System.
